This week was for the birds . . .

with a few hogs, gators, dolphins and a rocket launch thrown in.

We spent most of the week camping at Manatee Hammock in Titusville. This allowed us access to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and Orlando Wetlands. It also gave us a front row seat for the Falcon 9 launch from Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday. Unfortunately it was cloudy so we only got to see the first few seconds, but it is still pretty impressive to be that close.

We hit both Black Point Drive and Gator Drive at Merritt Island where birds abounded, and stopped at Haulover Canal for the manatees (very murky, but they were there), flamingos (too far away for a photo) and dolphins (only one, but a great show). We also got to see the feral hog family several times, but always tucked into the grass, so hard to photograph.

We made our first, but not last, visit to Orlando Wetlands. There was even more bird action here than at Merritt Island. The most amazing was a Great Blue Heron flying straight at me with a big eel (?) in its mouth. I was too slow to get the front view, but you get the idea. We had a blast.

Returning home did not stop the bird show. Even our own backyard and neighborhood were chock full of birds this week. Life is good!
