Never eat anything bigger than your head!

This Great Egret was certainly pushing the limits with the frog he was trying to consume. We spent a good bit of time pond-side in Jonathan Dickinson State Park watching him flipping and twisting his meal in an effort to get it down the hatch.

Although they were once almost hunted to extinction for the fluffy mating feathers you can see here, Great Egrets are now quite common in Florida. According to Cornell Labs, the oldest recorded Great Egret lived to 22 years 10 months and was banded in Ohio.

They just opened a new park very near us with eight miles of hiking/biking trails (Kiplinger Conservancy). Here are a few photos from our first visit to the park earlier this week.

Don’t forget, next week we spring ahead!
