Look no further . . .

than our backyard. This week yard work and errands took precedence over birding, biking and diving. This limited photography to our backyard residents and visitors.

Koko was particularly pleased with the new mulch. Despite the fact that she has a bucket full of dog toys, she prefers a more natural chewy bone.

Although it seems that our hummingbirds have headed north for the summer, there is still plenty of activity in the backyard to keep us amused. We continue to see the Painted Buntings (as many as five at once) and Yellow-rumped Warblers, but the Palm Warblers appear to have moved on as well. The usual visitors, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, Grackles, Mourning Doves and Ground Doves were joined by a Catbird making its first ever appearance. And, the Orchids are blooming nicely. Here are some of this week’s highlights.
