Cool stuff happens after dark.

It was a week when most of the cool stuff happened after the sun went down, sometimes well after. This included floating in my pool at 1:30 am watching the Perseid meteor shower (I saw four), getting up at o’dark thiry to watch a launch (that was delayed then scrubbed), and blackwater diving (finally a nice calm night).

Although the launch was delayed, I was already up. Since it was still dark out, I walked out to lay on the tailgate of my truck to look for more meteors. On the way, I found this beauty on a web stretched between the palm in our front yard and the kayak rack on my truck. They spin their webs at night and take them down before sunrise. Tropical Orb Weaver

We finally had perfect weather for a blackwater dive. Calm seas and no thunderstorms. The folks on the boat that do a lot of blackwater diving were a bit disappointed because there were not a lot of unusual critters. Novices like me were very happy. There was plenty to see even if the creatures were on the more common side. To see my favorite images from the night click here.
